Golden Heart Senior Care of Charlotte, NC Earns “Featured” Approved Senior Network Status
(Charlotte, NC, January 4, 2015, ApprovedSeniorNetwork.com) Approved Senior Network announces the first “Featured” status for a senior care provider in Charlotte, NC. Golden Heart Senior Care, owned by Adam and Natalie Smith is a stellar example of excellence in home care, senior care, and elder care services. They have over 90 positive reviews and testimonials from clients and families around the Charlotte Area.
Approved Senior Network’s Valerie VanBooven RN BSN, interviewed Adam and Natalie about their business, their mission, and vision for senior care.
Tell us about yourself, your passion for seniors and why you entered the senior care market.
“Both Natalie and I grew up taking care of seniors,” explained Adam. “I grew up working for my dad in nursing homes and Natalie put herself through school as a caregiver in Maryland. After my own family had several bad experiences with different home care agencies in Charlotte when we needed help, and we experienced the callous and indifferent way we were treated, it inspired us to start our own agency. From Day One our goal has been that our clients would receive sincere, compassionate care and that we would always be available and accountable to the families that rely on us for help. We love doing this and what keeps us motivated is that under our watch, no family will go through the bad experience or be treated indifferently like we were.”
Tell us about your business- current # of caregivers, clients, or community outreach efforts etc.
We started off with nothing, we had no caregivers, no clients and we worked from our home. By providing great care, only using caregivers we believe in and by putting our clients’ care first, last and always, we have grown to where we have three offices and over 70 caregivers taking care of families centered in Mecklenburg County but also encompassing Iredell, Lincoln, Cabarrus and Union counties in North Carolina as well as York and Lancaster counties in South Carolina. We are the on-site providers of care for two independent living communities in Charlotte and we are the preferred provider for care for a number of rehabilitation centers and hospitals. We got to this point because social workers, case workers and discharge planners and others who help families have seen the type of care we provide over the years and they trust us to take care of their seniors.
What are some things that you think makes Charlotte a great place for seniors to live?
Charlotte is a wonderful place for people of all ages to live. Its got good weather with all four seasons, the people are friendly, and there are lots of things to do. More specifically for seniors, there are several senior centers and organizations like the Shepherd’s Center that offer activities and classes for seniors to attend.
What are some things that you wish Charlotte could do better for seniors and families?
One thing that we see is a problem is the lack of support for public transport for seniors. The program is limited and underfunded.
Tell us any story about a client or situation that really had a positive impact on their lives, or your life.
The main reason we love what we do in owning a home care agency is honest-to-goodness, every day we get to make a difference in peoples’ lives. I used to be a corporate attorney and felt that I was not doing anyone a bit of good. Doing this and getting the thank you’s from our seniors and their families is a tremendous feeling and is very fulfilling. We have had families in hospice situations who have been so grateful for the care we provided and we find a tremendous amount of meaning in that. But its not limited to those situations, every day I talk to my seniors and see what is going on in their lives and how we can be of help. I love it.
What would you like Charlotte seniors and families to know about your business?
That we truly care about what we do. When I was a lawyer, I was not emotionally invested with what I did. With this, I live and breathe about the care of my clients. If there is a problem, I work like heck to resolve it to the family’s satisfaction. I feel a tremendous obligation to our seniors for what they have gone through in their lives and what they have contributed to this country. It is an absolute privilege and a pleasure to help them when they could use a hand.
